Science and Social Studies

Whew! It has been a long week. Since school is out, I have been cleaning everything (apartment, files, and computer space). I haven't had time to work on this blog, but I had a free hour today and tried to finish what I could on the links sections. I have almost finished the Social Studies and Science link pages. It is all for Georgia Standards.

I'll work on more later. Right now, my dog is begging for my attention. :)

Excuse the mess. I'm currently compiling a list of links to help my students in the classroom. I never realized it would take hours for each subject! Oops.

Short bio

Professional: Graduated from Mercer University. Taught for ten years in a Georgia Pre-K classroom. Last year, I was uprooted and went to a public school to teach 4th Grade. There were some adjustment days, but I ended up loving it (I loved my little ones, too).

Personal: I'm getting married 10-04-14 to the man of my dreams (who happens to volunteer 5 to 10 hours a week for my school). Mother to a Jack Russell named Jaxon (never a calm moment in my life).

Hobbies: Reading, creating on the computer, 5ks (getting back into this since I had a year off), and hanging with my fiance'.

Likes: Pink, black, polka dots, vanilla scents, back to school sales, Pinterest, computers, teaching

Strongest area in Teaching: Grouping for differentiation (Social studies/reading/writing)

I am using the summer months to purge my Pre-K items (my apartment is just not big enough for all of this stuff) and start working on my new classroom. This year I intend on using Whole Brain Teaching instead of Class Dojo (CD worked for about a month and then they just did not care). I am also going to redecorate my classroom using a basic color scheme instead of the rainbow of colors that I used last year.

Happy Classroom Mix

We’re going to make a Happy Classroom mix today. What makes a class a happy class?What makes a class a sad class?

Ok, well, lets see what it takes to have a happy classroom.

1. The bowl is going to be our classroom. Discuss why it could be our classroom.
2. Pretzels. Are they hard or are they soft? HARD! We are going to put HARDWORKERS in our classroom because we like to have people who work hard. How can you work hard in our class?
3. Marshmallows. We like people who use soft words. Soft words are nice words. What are some nice things we can say to our friends?
4. Chocolate. We like people who are sweet and who do sweet and nice things for each other. What is something you can do that is sweet for someone else?
5. Cheerios. We like the kids who cheer on their friends and who help each other clean up. How can you cheer on a friend?
6. Happy Face Fruit Snacks. We love smiling faces in our class. Everyone show me your smiling face. What makes you smile?
7. Rotten banana. Ok, now we are going to put this rotten banana in. (Pause and wait for a moment. Act like you are putting it in.) Why do we NOT want a rotten banana in the happy classroom? What are some ways we have rotten bananas in the room?
